Amazing Boat Safari In Madu River 2022
Today we are ready to go on a different journey after being a little different from the places we go every day. Although I have been planning to go for a long time, I did not get time together. Also, if there is someone who knows about the event, why not? While there, I remembered Kasun Priyalal brother from Kurudugaha Hathape. When I talked to Kasun, they intervened to provide us with the facilities, so the work became easier. It is said every day that if you can get in touch with someone who knows the location of the trip, you can really make the trip a successful trip.
Coming from the highway, we exited at the Kurudu Gaha junction to go to Balapitiya. Even when we reach Kurudugaha Hathapa, Kasun is waiting for us. We took the motorbike to Balapitiya along the side roads. Brother Kasun, who stopped first at Balapitiya, the boat is given at the hotel below, so let’s leave here. We stopped the vehicle as told and entered the hotel.
When I look at the people who have come to visit Madu river, most of them are foreigners. It can be seen that most foreigners come to visit Madu river. The Madu river falls into the sea about 500 meters below the Balapitiya bridge. We also approached the bridge built to board the boats on the riverside because we saw the boat approaching for our journey. As our group was a little bigger, a little bigger boat came ready for the trip. In any case, if you go on a boat trip, you must follow the safety measures, that’s why we all got a safety jacket. After putting it on, we boarded the boat and left.
So now it’s going up along the river. As we went up, several boats that had finished the tour passed us by rocking our boat here and there. On the way, we first had to pass the Balapitiya bridge on the Galle-Colombo road and then the bridge on the Lower Country Railway. But the trip under the bridge is also a strange experience. Anyway, when you sit in the boat, there is a height of about 6 feet between the bridge and the boat, so you have to be very careful when the boat moves under the bridge.
Madu River is a very busy river, how many boats went up and down in the five to ten minutes we arrived? It is said that there are about 200 boats transporting tourists. So when these boats move here and there, it is a bit of a nuisance for the people on both sides of the river and it is also a problem for the mangrove plant system of the river. It was only after we slowed down the speed of our boat that I saw the roadblocks in the river.
In order to control the speed of the boats, the ropes that pull the ships across the river have been pulled from several places. The boats need to be lifted from all those places, otherwise the pan will get tangled in the pan, so the speed will be controlled automatically. So it has been possible to reduce the erosion on both sides of the river to a great extent.
Now we came close to Madu River about a kilometer and on the way we were able to see several shrimp traps. This method of catching shrimp is also very strange. Gage chooses a suitable place and creates something like a fence in the shape of a letter with sticks. At the end of it, a small place is created and something like a circle is created. A light is lit inside it at night, then the frog finds that light and comes inside the cage. In the end, after going inside that little hole, it goes out again.
This is how catches the shrimp. It came to know that there are about 25 such shrimp farms. If you feel a little tired while you’re going, there are shops too, so turn it off, but there are more things like king coconut. Even when we left, several boats carrying foreigners were parked in the middle of the river. There are about 4 shops like this. When we passed all that and came forward, it seemed as if we had entered a great lake, but actually this is Madu river, not anywhere else.
Due to the fact that this area of Madu river is a low land, it is completely flooded. The high places are raised up and that’s why this island is known as madu river. In any case, River used to have 64 islands, but now only 27 islands are left. The other islands have been lost since time immemorial. So, out of these 27 islands, we got to know that about 9 islands are living. Bridges have been built on all 5 islands from the islands inhabited by the population. Also, it is said that the 6 islands have easy access to electricity.
Sir, that island is the biggest island. That’s the voice of Gayan Madusanka who drives our boat. Gayan made a great effort to explain everything to us about the special places. There are about 350 families in Maduwa. Maduwa is a complete domain of village officials. There are two temples, a school and several shops for the needs of the people living there. On an island in the middle of a river. Being alive is a strange thing, isn’t it?
While we were going forward with a little observation about the things on both sides of the river, Gayan showed us another island and said that it is called snakes island. Because the snakes that used to be caught are brought to those dogs. But now there are no snakes. There is no human habitation on this island. After that, we went to Mada island.
Southern Province is so famous for cinnamon, how can you crush kurudhu if you go to Mada island and You can see and see how to prepare the ground turmeric to send it to the market. Also, if you want, you can drink cinnamon tea to relieve your fatigue, but you won’t get any money. So, if someone likes to see these, buy some cinnamon, buy some cinnamon tea, you can get it by paying money.
All of Madu’s river lands have their owners. It means that we got to know that there is a freehold right. But after the Madu river became a wetland park in 2003, no construction can be done now. But it is said that this problem is not a problem for the islands where the voters live.
After the Mada island, we stopped and got on the boat and started our journey. As we moved forward, we had to walk on a path that lay in the middle of a mangrove system between two islands. Actually, this road is the size of the boat, so everyone on the boat was careful to keep their hands and feet out. Since we travelled very early, it was also a matter of happiness that we had the opportunity to study well the specialty of a mangrove plant system.
There are about 20 mangrove plants in Sri Lanka. It is said that there are 12 types of mangrove plants in Madu river. Madushanka told us that the mangrove plant called Ratanilla is a mangrove plant unique to the Madu River. We came out very carefully and started moving forward without stopping. Now the boat is traveling a bit faster because there are no obstacles ahead. We saw another small island in the distance. I told tov Madusanka to look towards that island.
Because I saw a species on that island from far away. This is called the five-cent island. This is the smallest island in Madu river. A temple was built here before, but it was destroyed, and recently an idol was placed in the temple. It was Madusanka who told us about the smallest island of Madu river.
After that, everyone who went on Madu’s river visit landed at Koth island. Koth island Rajmaha Vihara is located in this island of Kotduwa and this temple is the only one. Three names of the Lord work and live here. This temple belongs to the temples of Katrina Valley and this temple was built from the so-called Katrina Valley. Also, we got to know from the former leader of the temple, Maduruwon, that our Reverend Dalada has been living here.
If you go to the Koth island temple, there is another special thing to eat. That is the reclining Buddha statue showing the posture of Lord Buddha reclining after giving alms during the day. On the way back after saying goodbye to Koth island, we crept under the shortest and longest bridge in Sri Lanka and landed again at the same place where the boat had boarded.
So, I will not say anything about the longest bridge with the shortest width in Sri Lanka. You can get to know about it if you visit Madu river one day. So see you at another beautiful event in Sri Lanka.
